An effective committee chair is key to elevating a boards performance.
Committee chairs want to know how they can improve their performance and effectiveness, including that of the committee they chair. They also want to learn how to ensure their committee does all it can to serve the board appropriately. How the board and executives perceive the reporting and recommendations from the committee will be of interest to the Committee Chair. Whether the committee chair provides appropriate leadership on committee matters is also assessed as part of the Committee Effectiveness Module.
The resulting Committee Effectiveness Scorecard provides the Committee Chair with a solid foundation for discussing improvements with the Chair and the board. It also aids the Chair in conducting focused discussions with other committee members and relevant executives regarding the necessary enhancements to be implemented.
Committee Chairs will also be interested in the insights and recommendations arising after completing the board survey. It may be appropriate for the Committee Chair or their committee to take a leadership role in following up on the identified improvement opportunities. For example, a People and Culture Committee will likely be interested in understanding and overseeing proposed improvements resulting from a Leadership Team Effectiveness Survey.
